"A successful man is someone who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much, who has gained the respect of others and the love of children; who leaves the world better than he found it; who never lacked appreciation of earth's beauty ; who always looked for the best in others and gave the best he had. "
- a variation of "Success" by Ralph Waldo Emerson

The Most Expensive Toy

Mom’s digital piano becomes Alvin’s most expensive toy now. And, that is the only toy he cannot possibly move and drop to the floor.

He loves to hear the sounds he creates and he is very curious about the notes. With 5 minutes practice everyday, we are sure Alvin will, someday,

short the circuit by his drool!!!

The Dropping Game

Alvin is learning the cause-and-effect right now. He loves to drop his toys and watch them fall and hear people mumbling in the background and then the toy comes back again! The frustrating parents have to stand all these because it is the way he learns an object’s characteristics: Heavy or light? Hard or soft? Noisy or quiet? And, also he learns thing doesn’t disappear even they are out of his sight. They will come back, of course, with little help. Most of all, he learns that his actions can make things happen. He is in power now!!!

We documented what he did. At the end, you can see all the victims are laying on the floor.

The First Snow

Maryland finally got its first snow this winter! We let Alvin play in our backyard with the snow.

Sporting Day

We visited our dear friends Bing & Shuang at Rotonda the past weekend. They finally reunited with their little princess Helen after 2 years. Helen is very sweet, talent, and most of all, very thoughtful. I am sure she will be a good sister for Alvin.

Rotonda Building has bowling alley, Pingpong, Pool and Soccer games. Alvin practiced his first bowling but too bad they don’t have anything under 1 pound - not very infant friendly.

If you look carefully in the “Pooh to Pool” picture shown below, Alvin's drool was about to drop. Sorry, our Rotonda-ers!

Alvin is 6 Months!

The first entry of our blog marks Alvin’s 6 months journal to this spectacular world. Alvin’s present has enlightened our life in many indescribable ways. There is nothing more enjoyable than having a big kiss on his pink cheeks after a long day of work, although taking care of him is worse than any other jobs on this planet, we all agree.

Alvin was born on July 17, 2006. The name “Alvin” has the meaning of “be loved by all”. Soon after his birth, Alvin replaced his mom as the commander of the house. Sure enough, his father has dropped from No 2 to No 3 in place. Alvin drives everything in the house, including our mealtime and sleeping schedule.

Alvin can sit up straight by himself now. Sometimes he uses his hand to support himself not to fall to the side. He is an active boy and loves to spend time on his jumper and exersaucer. Drooling is part of his teething process. Once the faucet is on, it is hard to turn off. He loves to smile at people, but with the expectation that person will hold him. He will be very very unsatisfied if his smile isn’t getting rewarded.
